The World Art Collection in the Philippines will open in 2017
PHILIPPINES — The World Museum in Manila will open next year.
The World Art collection will be located in the former Philippine National Museum building on the Philippine island of Mindanao.
The museum, which opened in 2005, has been at the center of a political row over the country’s debt crisis.
The museum has faced protests, vandalism and looting.
President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the closure of the museum after it reopened in January.
He has said the closure was to protect the country from terrorism.
The new museum will be the first of its kind in the world.
The collection will feature works by such notable artists as David Hockney, Paul Klee, Robert Rauschenberg, Claude Monet and David Lynch.
The collections are said to be worth more than $1 billion.
